Book Review – “Secrets of the Monarch – What the Dead Can Teach Us About Living a Better Life” by Allison DuBios

December 3, 2009

I picked this book up from the library.  I chose it because I like to read about psychics. Allison DuBois is the woman upon whom the TV show “Medium” is based.  I had hoped that the book would have lots of stories about Dead People she had talked to.  I was not disappointed but there were chapters of the book that had none of that.  I love the dead people stuff and so I was a tad disappointed that it was not all like that.  I had to think, why would she do this… Then I looked at the title again.

Allison has been talking to the dead her whole life and now, with her kids ½ grown she’s started to notice the pattern.  So she is sharing with us the wisdom that she’s learned from those who’ve gone on.  Wisdom about how to live our lives is given.  Allison DuBois  is a lovely intuitive writer.  I appreciate the introduction by her husband who is (just like on the TV show) a wonderful human being designed perfectly to be her life partner/spouse/co-parent.

I love how she shares her experience of talking with her close friend who’s passed as well as her father.  She is still grieving him, even though he visits it is not the same.  I get visitation from my mother and I still grieve her too.  It’s bittersweet but I wouldn’t change it.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves the ghost stories. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for better ways to live their lives.  I recommend this book to anyone who is grieving.  There is comfort in these pages.
